Why Do Things Happen?

Why? The most basic fundamental question that one could ask. Sometimes in ones life when things happen, the answer to why it happend is obvious. You were driving 75mph in a 55mph zone. The officer not only gives you a ticket, but is kind enough to explain why you're getting a ticket, (as if you already didn't know). Life can be simple! But there are times when things happen that leave you with an empty feeling. You don't know why it happened. You don't even know if you were the cause or not. What's worse, there seems to be no answer as to why it happened, and so you're left with that most basic question,........WHY!

As Christians we find it difficult to deal with the really tough and agonizing questions in life. To name a few:

The Answer To A Question That Has Not Been Asked!

What drives us to ask questions like these? They are valid and legitimate questions, but there never seems to be a satisfactory answer to any of them. How could there possibly be a question with no answer? Are we to be left in a state of confusion? As a Born Again child of God I refuse to accept that there are no answers to these questions. Many people feel that to try to understand why these things happen is just to complicated. Maybe we should just accept it and move on with our lives. I know as a child of God, I should not be confused about any of these issues.

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace... 1 Corinthians 14:33

The thought occured to me, that possibly we are asking the wrong question. Maybe we are trying to find the answer to a question that has not been asked! Maybe all of the above questions have the same answer, and can be found in the correct question. Maybe the question we should be asking is this.

Within this question lies the "root" problem to all of the above questions.

The Root Problem

I know what you are thinking. "Jesus was the Son of God, he was supposed to die that way, it wasn't my fault!" Well actually it was your fault! You are the reason he had to die the way that he did. It was your sin that caused that horrible event to occur in the first place, and there you have it. The elusive root problem to all of the questions...............SIN. So are we saying that these terrible things happen to people because they are sinful? Although we are all sinful, and cannot live a day without sinning, that in itself is not the reason. The reason these things happen is that sin exists in this world. Sin came in when Adam and Eve allowed it to come in when they disobeyed God. Sin is the root problem to all of these questions. When sin came into the world, it brought with it sickness, disease, hatred, murder, marital problems, unforgiveness, etc. etc.. It is the presence of sin that allows a person to be used of the devil to kill another person for no apparent reason. It is for the same reason a terrorist will commit unspeakable acts of violence. You can blame sin itself for the disease that has taken a life all to early. It is sin that splits marriages and leaves children without their parents.

In The Name Of God

It doesn't suprise me that people will commit terrible acts of violence and do it in the name of God. It doesn't suprise me that they even feel God is speaking to them, and telling them to commit these terrible acts. I'm not surprised that terrorists think that they are doing God a favor by killing and destroying. Look at what the Scriptures tell us.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Isaiah 14:12-14

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy........ John 10:10

They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. John 16:2

The devil is speaking to the person who kills or the terrorist that is full of hatred. The devil is telling them that "he (the devil) is God, and I want you to commit these acts of violence", and they believe him. In some cases the devil will even tell that person that they are God. The devil really doesn't care how it happens as long as he gets his way, and accomplishes his mission. But keep in mind that it is sin that is the root problem here. The devil represents sin. He is the author of sin, and he has been doing this for a long time.

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8

Sin will destroy! That is the only purpose of sin. If you are in sin, then that sin will eventually destroy you, and as you just read, innocent lives are also being destroyed by those that are influenced by sin.

Is There An Answer To These Problems?

Before we go any further, let me give you the answer to the destructive problem of sin, and also the answer to all of the above questions. You just read the answer in the scripture above. The answer is the same for all of these questions............... Jesus Christ !

......For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8

Although most Christians know this they still do not feel secure. They will continue to worry and fear that these terrible things will happen to them. They have very little peace and as they continue to watch the news on television or listen to misguided people, their hope begins to fade. Do not allow the devil to rob you of God's peace and hope, by allowing fear to set in. Does this mean you are less of a christian than the next person because you are feeling this way? No it does not! But make no mistake about it, you will be engaging in a very dangerous game, by allowing the devil to have access into your life. If you don't believe that then allow 'the book of Job' to speak to you from God's Word. Job was a righteous man, but had a problem believing that God would take care of him and his family. He worried and had a great fear that some calamity might happen to him and his family. That fear and worry was SIN. Sin gives the devil access to your life. What you are about to read is a statement from Job's own mouth after the calamity happened.

For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came. Job 3:25-26

Job had a great fear.He felt he had no safety, and that he had no rest. He was not quiet, (his mind was full of doubts and fear). Then trouble came. Don't ever think that God was involved in this in any way! Don't ever think that God allowed this to happen to one of his children! Remember what you read in John 10:10. The devil's intent is to kill, steal and destroy! What you are about to read is God's intent for your life.

Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. Psalms 103:1-5

Allow me to summarize what this scripture is saying, because it is exciting news. But first I'm going to jump up and down and praise the Lord for his goodness!.........Ok I'm back. If your wondering, yes I actually did jump up and down and praise the Lord, because I know that what is being said here is an anointing of God!

I ask you, does this sound like someone who would turn your life over to the devil? Of course not! Don't ever think that God will give the devil permission to wreak havoc in your life. The exact opposit is true. God does not want the devil involved in your life in any way, and that is why he tells us to "......Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" James 4:7. When will God's children wake up and realize that God is on their side!

Just Where Is God When These Things Happen?

Before we answer this question, think about this. This generation cannot expect help and protection from someone who for the most part is being systematically removed from our every day lives! From our Government right down to the family level, we have asked God to leave, and not to interfere with our lives!

Then as our children mature we wonder why they have no morale values. Why they are full of hatred and mistrust. Why some children will even kill their own class mates or even their own parents, and not feel any remorse. We wonder why our families are falling apart, and the divorce rate is so high. The sad truth is that many of our children are growing up, and they are not sure if there really is a God. You cannot ignore God and then wonder why your life is comming apart at the seams! Surely we are more inteligent than all of this, but you really have to wonder. So why do we suffer under all of these calamites, sickness and disease? The answer is simple.

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Galatians 6:7

I usually try to avoid offering any of my own opinions in the articles that I write. But I'm going to make an exception here. I want to give you what I feel is the definition of moral values.

"Moral values are a set of rules that you live by, with boundries that are carved in stone, unmovable, and not open for discusion or debate!" If we were to apply God's Word as our moral values, then we would experience an inner peace and joy that we have never known before.............The Presence of God! Now back to what we were talking about.

If we continue on the path we are on as a nation, we might even succeed in making God unconstitutional! So where is God when all of these calamities are happening? The same place he has always been. He is waiting for us to allow him back into our lives. We can begin to change this country, but it must start with you and I. We need to hear God's Word every day. We must understand what he is saying to us.

For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Matthew 13:15

We can avoid all of these problems in our lives if only we can believe what the Word of God is saying to us. We must begin to choose God's way of doing things. The decisions we make now will also affect our seed (children).

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. Deuteronomy 30:19

What Now?

Whatever has happened in your past, whatever you're worried about, whatever you're feeling guilty about, you must give those burdens to Jesus and move on. You can't change what has happened in your past, but you can through Jesus Christ change what will happen tomorrow. The devil wants you to continue to drag your worries and fears with you day to day. If you do, it will be like dragging a ball and chain behind you wherever you go. You can't live in the past, and you can't live in the future. We can only live where we are right now.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Matthew 6:33-34

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

We must allow God and Jesus back into our everday lives if we expect to be protected from what is happening in this world. Every day Jesus is trying to get your attention. He wants to be a part of your life. He wants to help you with the problems you face and to show you how to live your life more abundantly.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20

....I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10

Make time for God and Jesus Christ in your life. No matter what is happining in your life, Jesus is always knocking at the door of your soul. He is always trying to get your attention. Take the time to hear him, and allow him back into your life every day. There are powerful day to day benefits in having God and Jesus Christ in your life. Remember Psalms 103:1-5.

Dwell In Safety

Yes bad things happen in this world. But remember that it is sin that is the root problem of all of the terrible things that are going on around us. In the midst of all this fear, hatred, and terror you can dwell in peace and safety. Allow God back into your life. Make him your dwelling place. Trust in him for he is your fortress and protection. The devil and his evil spirits are using sin to cause all types of pestilence in this world. There is no doubt that the devil is the fowler. For he is fowl and evil.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. Psalms 91:1-3

Don't forget the Blood of Jesus! This is a subject, Lord willing we will talk about in a future article. There is no question that there is tremendous power, authority, and protection in the shed Blood of Jesus Christ! In the past God used the blood of animals to protect his people from calamities, and the evil that was coming. They applied the blood to their house and the evil passed over them.

And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:13

Can you imagine what the shed Blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ can do for you? Can you imagine how you would be protected under the Blood of Jesus? You can receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and his Blood will cleanse you of all your sins.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

Apply the Blood of Jesus to your life and to your family. Speak the Word of God out loud. Expect God to protect you and take care of you. God loves you. Let him back into your life. Let the world wonder how you can overcome when there are problems all around. Let them ask how you can be at peace when there is turmoil everywhere. When they ask, then tell them what God has said!

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.. John 16:33

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Revelation 12:11

Allow God's Word to dwell in you daily. In so doing you allow God into your life. Praise God over his Word and receive his loving protection from sin, sickness, disease, and calamities.

Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man; Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war. They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah. Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings. Psalms 140:1-4

Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. Psalms 91:9-11

For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD.... Jeremiah 30:17
